I discovered the work of Frederic Fontenoy through the website of Violet Blue. His series Chambre Noir has all the features I love in photography. His photos have a creamy, noir feel. It harks back to the style of the late 20’s/early 30’s. Like Speers and Von Unwerth, he quotes the brothel atmosphere of historic red light Paris. There is also a bit of parody in the series as well, with Fontenoy himself acting in the role of a bookish misfit. The series is a celebration of female bodies in all their sizes. And of course, as in all libertine fairy tales, there is a turning of the tables.
You can see part of the series here at 180 Style Art.
