By all reports, Sarah Lane gave another amazing performance as Giselle last night. She filled in for Maria Kochetkova on short notice. Cheers to this hard working dancer getting the notice she deserves.
Even though we aren’t even mid-way through ABT’s summer season, I’m already thinking about Christmas!
Next year, Ratmansky will be mounting a lavish reconstruction of Harlequinade. On the fan sites, many were wondering why Segerstrom Center (ABT’s California home) wasn’t hosting the premiere. That had me wondering. Especially about Ratmansky’s Nutcracker as well.
Could it be that the company is coming home?
I checked Segerstrom’s site for this December and ABT is not listed. In that important run up to Christmas week, they have a Motown tribute show performing. Hardly any time for Ratmansky’s quirky Nutcracker production.
But what about BAM? For the past 2 years, Mark Morris’ nostalgic Hard Nut has made a home there for Christmas. I checked Morris’ website, they are taking their lively holiday production back on the road this year. This took me to BAM’s website. No Hard Nut this year. But the important run up to Christmas week and New Year’s Day are intriguingly free!
Dare I hope? Especially since ABT is on an upswing with so many talented Soloists and Corps dancers on the rise. I missed Sarah Lane’s performance in this ballet about 3 years ago. But I would also be interested in a debut of Skylar Brandt, Devon Teuscher or Christine Shevchenko in the lead.
I don’t want to get my hopes up, but they are already sky high.
